About the role
Join AQUABATTERY today, a pioneering climate tech startup with a mission to commercialise a affordable, safe and sustainable long duration energy storage (LDES) based on saltwater. Our innovative flow battery technology offers an LDES solution without relying on critical or toxic raw materials.
With fresh funding secured and our first commercial product on the horizon, this is an exciting time to become part of our growing team and contribute to building a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
As our Business Development Analyst, you'll be the analytical engine behind our commercial team. Reporting directly to the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), you'll turn market research, data and financial models into the insights that sharpen our go-to-market strategy and accelerate our sales cycles. This role is a healthy mix of behind-the-scenes analytics and customer-facing opportunities to validate market insights first-hand and support deals. Your data-driven work informs our commercial strategy and increases the customer’s understanding of our solution’s impact. Your work enables the CCO and the wider commercial team to make faster, better-informed decisions — from prioritising market segments to preparing for partner negotiations.
What you’ll be doing
- Lead market research and segmentation analysis to identify and prioritise our most promising target segments and early-market opportunities
- Build and maintain business development models — pipeline, pricing scenarios and business cases — that underpin data-driven commercial decisions
- Deliver customer use case analysis reports, and improve the delivery process to make it more efficient, accurate and actionable
- Own CRM, sales operations and pipeline reporting, keeping data clean, dashboards current and the team informed
- Provide analytical and research support across strategy, competitive intelligence and market intelligence
- Offer basic technical support within the commercial team, acting as a translator between our technical and commercial worlds
- Help enable and run day-to-day commercial operations — planning, coordination and internal cadence
- Engage with customers to validate market insights and support sales processes
- Represent AQUABATTERY at events
Function requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of work experience, ideally in consulting or a similar business development analyst role
- Minimum master’s degree with the technical or strongly quantitative academic background (e.g., engineering, sciences, econometrics or business analytics)
- Strong quantitative and modelling skills, with the ability to turn messy data into clear, actionable insights. Proven experience with Python, Excel or other relevant analytical tools
- Detailed oriented and accurate in analysis execution, with the ability to zoom out to understand the bigger picture
- Good communication skills to translate complex insights into digestible messages internally and externally
- Commercially savvy, with a genuine affinity for the energy transition
- Experience in a start-up or scale-up environment — hands-on, resourceful and comfortable with ambiguity
- Excellent command of English and Dutch languages, as it supports collaboration with our technology and manufacturing partners

About our company
AQUABATTERY is a climate-tech start-up, based in the Netherlands. Our vision is to empower the transition to net-zero by providing the world’s most scalable, sustainable and safe long duration energy storage solution. We do so through our revolutionary technology, which enables the storage of electricity in just saltwater. The world will need high volumes of energy storage to enable reliance on renewable energy sources like solar PV and wind energy, even if the sun does not shine or the wind does not blow. Our technology has been successfully demonstrated through several pilot installations in the Netherlands and in Italy. Our international team reinforces our impact-focused culture every day; taking on challenges and celebrating successes together.
